Eddie Howe has transformed the careers of many Newcastle United players.

For all the talk of big signings under the PIF ownership, it is the work Howe has done with the players he inherited from Steve Bruce that is most impressive.

Thanks to a sterling job on the coaching field, Newcastle have seen the investments they made in the likes of Joelinton, Fabian Schar and Miguel Almiron go further than they could have imagined before Howe's arrival.

Indeed, they aren't the only names on the list.

Sean Longstaff is another and then there's Jacob Murphy.

Farmed out on loan twice after failing to convince following a PS12m move from Norwich, the 28-year-old has grown in importance.

Hailed as "devastating" by pundit Rio Ferdinand after his rebirth as a Newcastle player, it seems Murphy is in line for a reward.

Jacob Murphy: Newcastle contract news According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are prepared to open fresh contract talks with Murphy.

It is claimed that Howe is a huge fan of the winger and wants to extend his stay at St James' Park until the summer of 2028.

That, in turn, will see him handed a pay rise at the club.

Clearly someone Howe rates, his ability to come in and make a difference when rotating the squad could prove more than useful as the club plot assaults on a number of major competitions.

Murphy may not be the flashiest name but a character like that and someone who loves the club can hardly be a bad thing to keep around.

If Murphy is to be rewarded, he'll have more than earned it.
