Paris SaintGermain's muchhyped superteam looks set to come to an end as star forward Kylian Mbappe prepares to leave for Real Madrid. The French powerhouse had assembled a formidable trio in Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar but failed to see significant results from this investment.
The financial costs incurred by PSG for these three players were substantial. They paid $194 million for Mbappe in 2017 plus an additional $235 million extension signed in '22. Meanwhile, Messi signed a twoyear deal worth $36 million per year while Neymar transferred from Barcelona for a recordbreaking $239 million in 2017.
However, despite the hefty price tags attached to these players, they did not deliver onfield success for PSG. Injuries, international commitments and conditioning issues prevented the trio from playing many matches together. As a result:
They won just 2 Ligue 1 titles
Failed make any deep runs into Champions League
Played only played total of 39 matches out of possible100 matches
Messi left last summer followed shortly afterward by Neymar which broke up what could have been one of football’s most talented trios before it ever truly took off.Their departure marks the end of an era at Paris SaintGermain without achieving its full potential on European stage or domestic league domination .
