Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone spoke to the media after his team crashed to defeat after a 15-game winning streak, with a 1-0 loss to Leganes on Saturday bringing that run to an end.
On the match, Simeone reflected that "the team generated enough situations to have had a different scoreline".
He went on to add that "after the 1-0, they became very strong in defense and that meant that we were not as clear as we were in the first half.
We had the penalty, but Leganes did very well.
It was our turn to lose.
On Tuesday we have a difficult match against one of the best teams in Europe.
"Simeone on the defeat ending a 15-game winning run "Let's go by parts.
We have played 15 wonderful games that will remain in the history of the club.
It is something very healthy, very nice.
It has been a huge effort to get to this place, which has benefited us in the league, cup and Champions League.
"Today we came up against a game in which, in the first half, it seemed that the team was getting closer to the goal.
There were plays that we could have solved better.
They had, at the start, a good play on the outside with a cross from the back that generated danger.
The match was geared towards winning it.
"In the second half, after the goal, Leganes defended much better, with a lot of order.
We lost height without Sorloth and we looked for alternatives with (Adrian) Nino to see if we could find him with a cross.
Leganes solved very well defensively.
We had the penalty and then the last one, which looked like a goal.
.
.
I leave, first, with congratulations to the players for the effort made until today and with the feeling that we did many things well, but the small details didn't work in our favour.
" Throughout this streak Atleti have been masters of the margins - winning the majority of 50-50s, timing the final ball just right, making timely changes, executing a clever set piece, staying fit.
Leganes today won every single one of those margins.
missed pen was just one more.
- Into the Calderon (@intothecalderon) January 18, 2025 Simeone on the lack of threat in front of goal "We always try to have chances to score and we were not able to be accurate today.
"Simeone on Leganes' goal "It was what usually happens in a corner.
They struck well, headed well and I congratulate them.
This time it was against us.
From that point on, the rival had more energy to defend better and to look for a counterattack that could have made it 2-0.
The match went as we saw it: a closed team, with humility to work together and allow us few chances.
Without Sorloth we lacked that man who, at least in height, can generate vertigo in the opponent.
We couldn't get through that situation.
"Simeone on how the players are taking defeat "When you get used to winning, it is very difficult to lose.
Winning is very nice, very healthy, it generates many positive situations.
But when it's time to lose.
.
.
It's part of the game, of the journey, of the road.
We have to accept it as it comes.
"Simeone on whether this defeat impacts the title race "I don't know.
The year we won the league we lost to Levante.
.
.
Another year we won, we lost to Almeria.
It's football.
We can win and lose against anyone because football is very difficult.
Spanish football is beautiful, there are teams that compete very well.
Barca, who play the best, have lost five games and maybe they shouldn't have lost any of them.
""We had chances, but when you don't go in the way you have to go in, with the energy that the match demands, the goal doesn't come.
We were not good, with enough energy to win the match, Leganes won and after 15 matches we lost.
We have to look forward.
"Oblak on the lack of energy "It shouldn't happen, but it did.
The easiest thing now is to talk that we have been terrible, which I don't think so either, but with a little more energy we could turn it around.
We had chances, we lost and, unfortunately, the streak is over".
Oblak on looking to the next winning streak "Neither before we thought we were going to win 15 games nor now either.
We have to think about winning on Tuesday and look ahead.
La Liga is long, there are many games left until the end and it's not going to end in January.
".
