'Source has confirmed': £45m Chelsea player won't be leaving in January despite frustrations - journalist

Chelsea only signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid in August, yet his future has already come into doubt.

Joao Felix has only made two starts in the Premier League this season, with Enzo Maresca unable to fit him into the team.

Maresca has plenty of attacking options, including Cole Palmer, hence why his Portuguese forward is not starting right now.

As a result, it has been claimed that Felix is not satisfied with life at Chelsea at the moment.

However, one source has informed journalist Simon Phillips that Felix will not be leaving Stamford Bridge in January.

On his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, he wrote: "Joao Felix will NOT be leaving in January, our source has confirmed.

And they even expect him to still be here in the summer.

"But I think we will have to wait and see on that one because Felix wants to play and is another who has been getting frustrated with his lack of game time.

"MORE CHELSEA STORIESFelix cost Chelsea PS45m, so he is an expensive substitute to have.

But the same can be said about a lot of Chelsea's other bench players.

Chelsea fans were hoping to see Felix start against Fulham last week, but Maresca was not interested in naming him in his first XI for that game.

Enzo Maresca claimed Joao Felix was 'different from the rest' Maresca has spoken very highly of Felix at times this season, which is why some Chelsea fans may be confused about his refusal to turn to him.

After Chelsea's 3-0 win against Aston Villa, Maresca claimed that Felix was different to other players.

He told reporters: "Cole Palmer and Joao Felix are the players that make people pay for tickets.

It doesn't mean the rest are not good but they are different from the rest.

"Clearly, then, the Chelsea head coach thinks that Felix is gifted.

However, that did not stop him from overlooking the Portugal international during his side's 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

Felix started on the bench that day and was not brought on at any stage.

Ultimately, Maresca's words are not matching up with his actions when it comes to Felix.

It would not be a surprise if neither Maresca nor the club wanted Felix and only sanctioned his arrival so that Conor Gallagher's move to Atletico could go through.
