Manchester City managed to beat Manchester United in the Community Shield without some of their key players in the squad.

In addition to not having Rodri, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish or John Stones available, the Blues also didn't have Julian Alvarez available for selection in their penalty shootout win over the Red Devils.

In fact, the 24-year-old isn't likely to be in the City squad at all this season, as the club have recently agreed to sell him to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth EUR95m (PS81m).

Despite that, the Argentine did share a reaction on social media to the Manchester club's latest trophy win at Wembley Stadium.

Alvarez has enjoyed his fair share of title wins at City In two seasons as part of Pep Guardiola's side, the Argentina international has won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one Champions League, one UEFA SuperCup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Having scored 36 goals and delivered 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions in a City shirt, it's undeniable that Alvarez has played a significant role in seeing the club win those trophies.

It's just a shame for him that he wasn't able to be involved in this Community Shield win after missing out on the FA Cup last season where City lost 2-1 to United.

Even though the striker looks set to be on his way to Atletico, it's good to see that he is still supportive of the club who have allowed him to win so much silverware in such a short space of time.
