The top 10 assisters in Europe in 2023-24: Maddison, Trippier, Brandt, Thuram…
Source:Planetfootball

Footballers from Tottenham, Newcastle, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Inter are among the top creative players in Europe in 2023-24.

We've put together the full 10 players with the most assists in Europe's top five leagues this season.

Note: whereby players are tied on the same number of assists, we've listed them in order of the best minutes-per-assist ratio.

Alex Baena, Felipe Anderson, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Ollie Watkins, Savio, Vladimir Coufal and Xavi Simons have all registered four assists but miss out on cracking this top 10 due to minutes played.

10.

Caio Henrique - 4 The Brazilian earned his first senior call-up back in August, having quietly become one of Ligue 1's standout left-backs.

Henrique has four assists for surprise table-toppers Monaco so far this season.

He's top of the assists table in the French top flight.

Unfortunately, he's going to be sidelined for the foreseeable future after undergoing ACL surgery.

9.

Julian Brandt - 4 Borussia Dortmund endured a slow and unconvincing start to the 2023-24 campaign, adapting to life after Jude Bellingham, with dropped points against Heidenheim and Bochum.

But their core players have stood up and responded well.

Dortmund remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga, have won their last four matches, and are level on points with Bayern.

Among their standout players has been Germany international Julian Brandt, with four assists and two goals so far.

He's averaging a direct goal contribution every 90 minutes.

Largie Ramazani - 4 It's worth keeping an eye on the Manchester United academy graduate, who has developed into one of Almeria's best players since departing Carrington back in 2020.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see the winger receive a senior Belgium call-up, given his form.

Ramazani recently made headlines with a hat-trick of assists - all for Luis Suarez (not that one) - in a 3-3 draw with Granada.

Diego Rico - 4 The former Bournemouth left-back is currently turning out for Getafe, on loan from Real Sociedad.

Jose Bordalas' side can charitably be described as functional, but they appear to be getting the best out of Rico, who has four assists from a limited number of minutes.

He even set up two goals in a 4-3 defeat to his parent club.

6.

Pedro Neto - 5 Having burst onto the scene a few years back, Neto looked set to succeed Diogo Jota as Wolves' next big thing.

But he struggled with injury and has spent the past two seasons struggling to refind form.

Suddenly under Gary O'Neil, Neto is looking back to his best.

He's set up goals against Everton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The Portuguese winger has set up three of Hwang Hee-Chan's goals so far this season.

That's the most fruitful partnership in the Premier League.

5.

Kieran Trippier - 5 Newcastle's captain is enjoying another stellar individual campaign.

The experienced full-back didn't register an assist until late September, but he hasn't looked back after setting up three of the Magpies' goals in their 8-0 mauling of Sheffield United.

Trippier has now registered an assist in each of his last four appearances for Newcastle, including in their instantly iconic 4-1 Champions League victory over PSG.

James Maddison - 5 There are lots of candidates for signing of the summer, but it's hard to look past Maddison on a purely pound-for-pound basis.

The England international cost Tottenham just PS40million - a bargain in today's market - from relegated Leicester City and appears to be relishing life at his new club.

Maddison has undoubtedly been one of the standout players for Ange Postecoglou's table-topping Spurs.

3.

Chris Fuhrich - 5 Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy has arguably been the story of the 2023-24 season so far.

The Guinean is out in front in the European Golden Shoe race, having scored a ridiculous tally of 13 goals from seven appearances.

But he's not the only Stuttgart player enjoying an exceptional campaign.

Left winger Fuhrich has five assists, and has set up goals in each of Stuttgart's last three matches.

2.

Marcus Thuram - 5 The France international has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Inter, having joined them from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer.

Thuram has two goals and five assists in his first eight Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri and seems to have an instant understanding with Lautaro Martinez, who is on fire.

1.

Saul Niguez - 5 What a wonderful renaissance the Atletico Madrid man is enjoying.

Saul was once talked up as one of the most promising Spanish midfielders of his generation, but he seemed to lose his mojo and never found it during that ill-fated loan to Chelsea.

For the first time in a number of years, he looks himself again.

He's yet to nail down a place in Diego Simeone's preferred XI - having started just half of their La Liga outings thus far - but he usually tends to deliver, notching five assists from 446 league minutes.

That's one every 89 minutes.
