Unai Emery does not have long left to settle on his best Aston Villa XI with just over a week until the first game of the Premier League season against West Ham.
Aston Villa are fresh off the back of an incredibly disappointing tour of the United States that was arranged to showcase their side and improve their global reach.
Three defeats from three games in the US was perhaps not the best way to go about that, but it will have at least shown Unai Emery what he needs to work on with his side prior to the start of the season.
Fortunately, Villa have two opportunities to iron out any issues before they face West Ham on August 17, starting with a game against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night before a trip to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
One of the decisions likely to be at the forefront of Emery's mind is the right-back position.
However, somewhat surprisingly, none of those signings have been a right-back.
MORE VILLA STORIESMatty Cash has been the first-choice in the position for the majority of the four years since signing but fell out of form at the end of last season as Ezri Konsa was often preferred to make the shift from centre-back to the right.
Some of this was down to fatigue and injury issues in the squad, but Cash's downturn in performances were alarming.
This led to speculation that Emery would look to sign an upgrade this summer, with Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong both linked.
However, no right-back arrival has materialised, with the impressive form of Kosta Nedelkjovic in pre-season seeing Villa cool their pursuit of a new player in the position.
Villa spent PS8 million to secure the services of the 18-year-old who has already played in the Champions League during his time at Red Star but he was very much viewed as one for the future.
The marauding right-back's performances have catapulted him into the first-team picture, though, meaning Emery is now unlikely to sanction another loan move away from the club and could even place his faith in the youngster to start.
The Spanish coach will be hoping the competition brings out the best in Cash, but Emery must now use the two remaining pre-season fixtures to establish which of his right-backs will start the season opener against West Ham.
