West Bromwich Albion have been up against it for several months now, with their Premier League status hanging by a thread.

That thread got a little weaker on Sunday afternoon when Newcastle United came from behind to beat Burnley at Turf Moor.

Jacob Murphy cancelled out Matej Vydras opener before Allan Saint-Maximin bagged a winner to put the Toon six points clear of the drop zone.

It also extended the Baggies gap to safety to 11 points with only eight games remaining.

For many Albion supporters Newcastles win seemed a potentially terminal set-back – leaving them with nothing more than local bragging rights to play for.

@le_lebouf76: Newcastles result as almost certainly put that glimmer of light out – but our objectives should not change we would have needed champions form to have had any chance – we have 2 big local Derbys to boot – so lets try to achieve the above

@BigAjayi: I dont get why our fans think we are down because of the Newcastle result. Did they genuinely think Newcastle wouldnt win another game?

@wba_gilb: So let me get this straight… Start of Feb, we fail to beat sheff utd, fulham & burnley, we still had a chance of stopping up, but Newcastle win today puts us down?? #wba fan logic baffles me sometimes

@HJMKent: One result doesnt send you down! Performances over 38 games does that! Really doesnt matter who we play the day the maths no longer add up!

@TheWatts22: Think that is that. As expected.

@SINGH_WBA: Only really have ourselves to blame with results with Newcastle, Sheffield Utd, Fulham and Burnley. All games we were the better team, but means nothing. Now its time to focus on ourselves, take one game at a time and not focus on other results.
