Football News » Ipswich Town » New Owners. New Manager. No Progress
It is all a bit depressing. We have some new investment in the club and a new manager that seemingly everyone wanted, and yet, the squad still fails to deliver. For the second game in a row, the Blues have not only failed to find the net but also failed to post a single shot on target! That is quite frankly abysmal. So then, what are we going to do about it?
It is a bit of an irony that in the last five matches under Paul Lambert we actually won three and drew two, and this was mainly against sides that were in or around the playoffs. Since Cook took charge, he has failed to address our goal-shy tendencies. I am quite sure he has been trying, but this whole squad seems to lack collective confidence and as I have said before, having confidence is 60% of what makes a player tick. Only 40% is about technical ability and you see this all the time. When a team finds form, they suddenly become an entirely different proposition.
It says something about this awful league that we still find ourselves within spitting distance of the top six. Yes, we have an inferior goal difference, but this has as much to do with the fact that we cannot score as anything else. Cook has tried everybody upfront in different permutations, but it has not borne fruit. Only James Norwood seems to have the wherewithal to score regularly but he is also injured regularly too!
The absence of the manager from post-match interviews is baffling. Why is he so camera shy? Is he afraid that he cannot defend players anymore or is it because he is frightened of upsetting the new owners by admitting he has not got a clue on how to get his players sufficiently motivated?
Town supporters need answers and not cover-ups. We have had more than enough of that under Marcus Evans, and only answers will address our frustrations and ensure that everyone is kicking the ball in the same direction. Paul Lambert should be afforded a cheeky smile right now.
