Pau Torres makes 'serious' Aston Villa declaration and lifts lid on difficult adaptation

Pau Torres insists Aston Villa are serious about finishing higher than last season's seventh place.

Villa are currently fifth after claiming eight wins in 12 games and have breathing space in front of the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle so far. Unai Emery's side are also on a remarkable winning run at home having won their last 13 Premier League matches at Villa Park.

Torres has played a key role in Villa's progress this season and how Emery's team plays in possession. He has started all 12 Premier League games and scored his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux.

"The team is close to the top four, it is not by chance that the team is up there," he told Spanish newspaper Marca. "Aston Villa are serious, it's a reflection of good work.

"I have all the confidence on Unai, the coach who got the best of me long ago. The days go by and we are showing that it is not a flash in the pan, that there is important work behind it and that for the moment allows us to be at the top."

However, he reveals that adaptation was tough at first. "It's always difficult," he added.

"I left home, from Villarreal to another country, another competition, but I have had all the trust of the club, Unai and my teammates. We Latinos move together. There are Dibu [Emi Martinez], Diego Carlos, Alex Moreno, Douglas [Luiz], [Emi] Buendia, [Jhon] Duran.

"We get along very well, but above all, families get together when we are far away and handle the absences better. We are adapted and enjoying English football."
