Shaun Wright-Phillips has suggested that one key figure at Manchester City could stay at the club for a long time.

During his playing career, Wright-Phillips spent 12 years at the Manchester club over two spells.

Now though, as a City ambassador, the 42-year-old has been speaking about one of the Citizens' current key figures and his future at the Etihad Stadium.

He said: "All it is, is for the right manager to come in to play the right way. You're never going to emulate what Pep does, the next manager that comes in may not be as good as [Jurgen] Klopp but they will win things but he will do it his way.

"You've got to respect that when that new manager does come in, if that ever happens because from what I heard Pep said he loves the club, he doesn't want to ever leave.

"I think City are in a good place for if that day ever comes, that manager is not going to have to come in and go and try and buy the whole world to try and do better than Pep did."

Guardiola was appointed as City's manager back in 2016 and has since gone on to overlook 458 games across all competitions, winning 339, drawing 55 and losing 64.

In terms of the trophies he's lifted as City's head coach, the Blues have won five Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four League Cups and one Champions League under the Spaniard's reign.

As things stand, the 53-year-old's current contract at the Manchester club isn't set to expire until the summer of 2025.

As Wright-Phillips mentioned, Guardiola said back in November that he would consider signing another contract extension at the club.

Bearing in mind how successful the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has been during his time at City, it would undoubtedly be a massive positive if he were to extend his stay at the Etihad and continue leading his side forward to more titles for the foreseeable future.
