'It feels like that': Tom Cairney shares which manager Arne Slot's move to Liverpool reminds him of

Liverpool are seemingly putting the final touches on Arne Slot's appointment as new manager.

The Reds recently made a breakthrough with Feyenoord to allow Slot to take over at Anfield next season. All that's left is an official announcement.

And as we await final confirmation that the Dutchman will succeed Jurgen Klopp, reaction has been rumbling in from the football world.

While most of the reaction to Slot's impending appointment has been positive, there have been quite a few dissenting voices, too. You're never going to please everyone, after all.

The latest to give his view is Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney. And the 33-year-old has drawn a comparison with Slot that Liverpool supporters may not thank him for.

But prior to him becoming the leading candidate not long ago, plenty of fans would be quite significantly in the dark over Slot.

He is not a world-renowned figure such as Xabi Alonso, or a manager who's been touted for top jobs for years like Ruben Amorim.

This shouldn't necessarily matter nor will it make a difference to Slot's success, but speaking on the Footballer's Football Podcast, Cairney's reaction suggests that players simply aren't aware of Arne.

"Do you remember when Ralf Rangnick got the Man U job? It feels a bit like that," said the midfielder, after being asked to comment on Liverpool's decision to appoint Slot. "I didn't know a lot about him either. I'm not saying you're going to get the same outcome, I'm just saying it feels like that."

It should perhaps be noted that neither Cairney nor the show's co-host Michail Antonio of West Ham had heard of Slot at all.

Is Slot's lack of pedigree a worry To many, Slot's lack of being a household name won't be a bother at all. His fame will have no bearing on his results.

But the one worrying thing could be that Cairney and Antonio's reaction is shared by the Liverpool dressing room.

So far, it's been claimed that the Reds players are 'delighted' about Slot becoming their new boss. But, truthfully, how many would have been left asking 'Who?'

Having been coached by a legendary figure like Klopp, there's a small chance that some within the squad will switch off, or subconsciously not listen to Slot.

At the top level, this is perhaps an unfounded worry. But we've seen it happen before at other clubs. It's down to Arne to get in there and make sure he stamps his authority in a way that Rangnick never really did.
