A journalist has shared a crushing update on West Ham and Liverpool target Ruben Amorim after talks but offered assurances to one club.

There has been another major twist in the fast-developing story surrounding Ruben Amorim amid links to Liverpool and West Ham.

And it's not good news for one of the coveted young manager's suitors it seems.

Yesterday The Athletic's top journalist David Ornstein claimed West Ham were holding talks with the Sporting boss.

Ornstein claimed the West Ham job carried appeal for Amorim because Liverpool were now unlikely to make him their replacement for the departing Jurgen Klopp.

The news has caused quite a stir in the media and among fans of both Liverpool and West Ham.

West Ham rival Liverpool as suitors for Amorim Many Hammers supporters are craving a young, modern, attack-minded manager as David Moyes' four-and-a-half year tenure comes to an end.

It has also raised eyebrows in Liverpool where his name had been among top contenders for several weeks.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The likes of CNN Portugal confirmed that Amorim had boarded a private jet to come to London yesterday evening for talks.

There was a gut-wrenching Liverpool twist for West Ham, though, as it was claimed by a Portuguese football reporter that Amorim would also hold talks with the Reds while in London.

Now the same journalist has shared a crushing update on West Ham and Liverpool target Amorim after talks but offers assurances to one club.

Pedro Sepulveda says 'something went wrong' and that the Amorim meeting 'was not positive'.

Sepulveda then reassured Liverpool fans on X that they won't be missing out to West Ham for the 39-year-old.

"Something went wrong," Sepulveda said.

"The plane that took Ruben Amorim to London this afternoon is already returning to Lisbon.

"The coach who is still negotiating with Liverpool and met West Ham for the first time today is back in Lisbon. The meeting was not positive."

In response to a message from a Liverpool fan account angry at the situation, Sepulveda added: "Be calm, you're not going to lose for West Ham on this."

Like my dreams they fade and die? West Ham will clearly fear for their chances now based on this update. Especially if the Reds get serious over Amorim.

The Hammers' owners will be hoping the Sporting boss might realise he could be on something of a hiding to nothing following in the footsteps of Klopp at Anfield.

Amorim recently spoke out amid speculation of a move to Liverpool. He insisted he had not been secretly interviewed by the Reds. And he stated his focus was on leading Sporting to the Portuguese title.

So this is quite the development in the last 24 hours.

West Ham have also been linked with Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui, among others.

But now the club's talks with Amorim have been confirmed, anyone else will feel like something of a step down after some West Ham fans allowed themselves to dream.
