Alexis Mac Allister has already suggested why Liverpool should be taking a look at Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco.

A former Boca player himself, Mac Allister told Dataref earlier this month that the 19-year-old is a potential future international for Argentina.

"I had the chance to see him and I'm not saying anything new when I say he's a great player," said the Liverpool midfielder. "He has a lot of abilities and even when it seems that his rivals are going to get the ball from him, no one can get it from him.

"I see him very focused although sometimes on the pitch he throws in the occasional extra luxury. He can be a very important player for our country and represent us very well in Europe."

Now, as per Calciomercato, it seems that the team Barco could be representing in Europe has a good chance of being Liverpool.

The Italian outlet claim that the Reds are handing 'fierce competition' to Juventus in the race to sign the teenager. With Barco said to be 'paying more attention' to a European switch, the battle to recruit him looks set to ramp up.

The youngster has established himself as a starter for Boca Juniors this season and looks set to develop into a really good player.

As a very attacking full-back, Barco also has the potential to be used further forward, too. As Liverpool potentially look for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, he's an interesting profile.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the Reds may need to soon replace Mohamed Salah.

If they have, then according to 90min they won't have to pay too big a price to get Barco in.

With a contract set to end in December 2024, they claim that the Argentina U20 international could be available for just PS8m.

Those with a keen memory will recall that that's more or less the fee Robertson was brought in for back in 2017. With a full-head of red hair, he even looks like he could be a Scotsman. Along with Mac Allister's glowing testimony, maybe that's all the signs Liverpool need. Remember the name.
