Manchester United star Harry Maguire won the trust of manager Erik ten Hag during the current season Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has won over manager Erik ten Hag with his impressive performance and attitude this season. The 30-year-old has been one of the brightest performers for the struggling United side in the current season.

The Red Devils have lost nine out of 18 matches in all competitions, conceding 30 goals so far this season. Ten Hag has failed to instil a concrete tactical approach and team chemistry to build a consistent run of results.

ESPN report that Ten Hag has found Maguire's attitude impressive since he learned about the captaincy change. The 53-year-old appointed Bruno Fernandes as the new Red Devils captain before the current season began. Nevertheless, Maguire handled the decision well instead of feeling embarrassed or having a grudge about it.

United appointed Ten Hag during the summer of 2022 after the Dutchman's successful tenure at Ajax. The 53-year-old immediately opted for Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane's partnership as his first-choice defensive pairing.

During the last season, Maguire struggled to secure substantial game time, leading to the stripping of his captaincy role. West Ham United attempted to sign the 30-year-old during the summer transfer window.

However, Maguire opted to stay and fight for his place at United, showing faith in his ability and determination. Currently sidelined with a long-term injury, Martinez has missed the majority of the season thus far. Whereas, Varane suffered recurring injuries of his own and struggled with performance due to poor fitness.

Maguire scored the winner against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, United's only win in Europe this season. The England international has successfully secured his spot in the starting eleven despite the fitness recovery for Varane. Ten Hag has opted to bench Varane in favour of Maguire during the last two games before the international break.

More Manchester United News- United will head into the congested fixture period once the club football resumes after the international break. Maguire has a key role to play in must-win games for United against Galatasaray at the hostile away stadium. The Red Devils are on the brink of early elimination from the Champions League if they lose their next game.
