Highlights
  • Arsenal interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes as a potential summer transfer target.
  • '6' role preferred by both Arsenal and Newcastle for Guimaraes, but may change if focus shifts to '8'.
  • Release clause of PS100m could be a hurdle in negotiations with Newcastle unwilling to sell.

Writing in his Q&A for The Athletic on Friday, David Ornstein reported that Arsenal really like Bruno Guimaraes as a potential summer signing. He can play as an '8', but both Arsenal and Newcastle see him more suited to the '6' role. However, if Arsenal's midfield transfer strategy changes towards signing an '8', they might not pursue the Brazilian midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano mentioned about the release clause being valid only during specific weeks which gives control back to Newcastle after that period. Both Manchester City and Arsenal have expressed interest in Guimaraes ahead of the upcoming transfer window but are looking to negotiate below his release clause.

Arsenal had shown interest even before he joined Newcastle United although no formal offer was made at that time. With impressive stats this season including five goals, eight assists, and multiple yellow cards; negotiating below the hefty release clause may prove challenging for any club eyeing him up.
